USA, 1915-S Panama-Pacific Octagonal $50 AU55 PCGS
Mostly lustrous throughout and attractive as the planchet exudes the rich green-gold color usually seen on these hefty gold coins. There are faint hairlines on the surface from a gentle wiping or slight friction from examination, but this piece did not appear to have any real wear from circulation. Fully struck and free of copper specks or similar detractions that can appear on the surfaces from within the planchet. No mentionable bumps or marks are present, with all eight corners intact on the octagonal surface, so careful handling has been the rule here. Identical in design to the $50 round piece, save for a slightly reduced size of the devices, and with the addition of eight small dolphins swimming at each of the corners on the obverse and reverse. Always impressive in any state of preservation, these rare Octagonal $50s were costly from the day they were coined, and have continued to increase in price on a fairly steady run for the past 107 years.
