Footnotes

  • 勞力士,「Submariner」5508型號,非常罕見及精緻自動上弦鏈帶腕錶,沒有錶冠護肩,年份約1962。

Rolex, the Submariner is one of Rolex's most iconic models that has gone through multiple metamorphosis during its 65-year history. Ref.5508 was manufactured within a short production period from 1957 until 1962. A notable difference between early examples and later models was they had either a "small" or "big" crown, and crown guards were introduced to the later models.

The present lot is nicknamed the "small crown", it was the last Submarine with no crown guards and to carry the "100m=330ft" depth rating on the dial. The original glossy black finish dial has transformed into a uniquely desirable spider-web like texture, due to the radioactive materials that were used on the hands and hour indexes. The Tritium filled hour markers have also developed a warm orange patina over time. This timepiece is nicely preserved, with the highly coveted tropical dial and all gilt prints and lumes are in original condition. Undoubtedly, the present example has aged handsomely, and it is truly the ultimate watch for Rolex aficionados.
