Highlights include William Barak's late 19th century drawing Ceremony, 1897 (AUD512,500); a pair of late 19th/early 20th century albums of photographs by Sir Walter Baldwin Spencer and Francis James Gillen (AUD268,400); Kimberley master Paddy Jaminji's Hills of Turkey Creek c.1984 (AUD170,800), from the Grundy Collection; Paddy Bedford's Merrmerrji-Queensland Creek, 2005 (AUD216,000); and Emily Kam Kngwarrey's My Country, 1993 (AUD414,800), from the collection of Sir Elton John.

Since the establishment of the department in 2011, Bonhams has also offered many important single-owner sales of special collections, in addition to our bi-annual auctions. These include Works from the Estate of Paddy Bedford, the first single-artist auction ever held in Australia; The Laverty Collection, one of the most important contemporary collections of Australian Indigenous art; the collection of Clive Evatt – one of the most comprehensive collections of bark paintings and sculpture and works from esteemed international collections such as that of Dutch collector, Thomas Vroom.

Our specialists have extensive experience advising private collectors, art dealers and corporate and public institutions on curating their collections, and on strategies for acquisition and deaccessioning. We welcome the opportunity to discuss your collection with you.
