The American Furniture and Decorative Arts Department offers furniture from the 17th - 19th centuries, covering William and Mary, Queen Anne, Federal, Classical, and Victorian periods. Our strong Decorative Arts focus encompasses folk Art, paintings, clocks, weathervanes, needlework, metalware, and ceramics.

Highlights include, a Chippendale Block and shell chest, sold for $1,436,250; the Dorr Family, Queen Anne, Japanned High Chest, Boston, sold for $772,500; and an oak console table from the William H. Vanderbilt residence, by Herter Bros, sold for $323,125.

Decorative Arts successes include an important 18th century needlework chimney piece, that sold for $611,250, and an early 19th century Moravian pottery owl bottle, which realized $49,200.
