Another Successful Year for Bonhams Wine and Whisky Sales

Bonhams wine and whisky departments worldwide reported sales of £16 million (US£21.3m/HK$166,200,000) for 2019.

Among the highlights of the year were:


• A bottle of the very rare Macallan-60 year old-1926, with a label designed by the British Pop Artist Sir Peter Blake that sold for £615,063 at Bonhams Whisky sale in Edinburgh in March.
• An exceedingly rare 30 year old sherry hogshead of whisky from the Macallan Distillery that sold for a new world record price of £440,380 at Bonhams Hong Kong in November. Distilled in May 1989, it has since been stored at the distillery and has a potential yield of 261 bottles.
• Hanyu Ichiro's Full Card Series sold for a new world record for a Japanese whisky collection of HK$7,192,000 (£755,000/ US$ 917,000) at Bonhams Fine & Rare Wine and Whisky Sale in August. It was bought by an Asian collector.

• A 12 bottle case of Romanée-Conti 1988, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, sold in London in March for £241,369.37.
• An outstanding and comprehensive private collection of wines from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti sold in its entirety for more than £225,000 at Bonhams in London in May.
• A small collection of wines from a private Irish cellar, part of an original collection purchased in 1955 for £500 – the equivalent of £12,500 today. The 23 bottles made £78,000 with a case of Château Latour 1948 selling for £17,925.
Bonhams holds five Fine & Rare Wine sales a year in London, and two in Hong Kong. Whisky sales are held four times a year in both Edinburgh and Hong Kong.
Bonhams International Head of Wine and Master of Wine, Richard Harvey said, "This has been another good year for Bonhams Wine and Whisky departments with eye catching results underpinned by a strong performance across the field. Looking ahead, we already have some exciting sales lined up for 2020."
