Bonhams Presents the Legendary Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref 6002g-001 Wristwatch

When the Patek Philippe reference 6002G with blue dials was launched in 2013, it immediately made history in the world of horology. Not only did it replace the 2001 Sky-Moon Tourbillon reference 5002 to be the most complicated wristwatch in the world at its time, the landmark timepiece also offers supreme craftsmanship with Arabesque sensibility like no other. Only a handful of examples of this now-discontinued model has been produced, and one of them is now the star lot at Bonhams Hong Kong Watches sale on 1 December 2021 (Wednesday). In pristine – entirely unused – condition accompanied by a complete original set, it is believed to be the best example of this legendary model to be offered at auction.

The iconic reference 6002G boasts 12 complications, all housed in an ornate white-gold case sculpted and engraved – entirely by hand – out of a huge block of white gold, with three-dimensional elegant scrolls taking Patek Philippe's master craftsmen over 100 hours to achieve. The exquisite blue front dial is decorated with both cloisonné and champlevé enamel, as well as a circular gold disc finely carved out in relief to reveal the apertures and tracks for the calendar and aspects of the moon.

Its breath-taking engineering features a minute repeater with two cathedral gongs and a tourbillon. The front dial indicates standard time and displays a perpetual calendar with retrograde date and moon phases. The reverse dial reveals astronomical functions with the northern sky, sidereal time, angular progression and phases of the moon.

Sharon Chan, Bonhams Head of Watches, Asia, commented: "The Ref. 6002 Blue Dial is stunning from every angle, surprising viewers from the exteriors to the interiors. It is not just a watch, but instead an artistic and engineering sculpture which blends and brings together the greatest artisans of their own specific fields, from watchmaking and design to enamelling and goldsmithing. For connoisseurs who have yearned for something so special and unique, this is without question the ultimate prize."
