British Prints Steal the Show at Bonhams Prints and Multiples Sale in Knightsbridge, London

LondonBanksy once again came out on top at Bonhams Prints and Multiples in Knightsbridge yesterday (Wednesday 27 April), with a print of his Girl With Balloon achieving an impressive £101,100. The work led the sale which offered an array of prints by British artists, spanning almost a century of printmaking. With 2022 being the Queen's Platinum Jubilee year, one of the stand-out lots of the sale was a lenticular print of Chris Levine's Lightness of Being, which sold for £24,225.

The sale made a total of £941,096 with 84% sold by lot and 99.8% by value.

Carolin von Massenbach, Director of Prints, commented: "We are absolutely delighted with the results of the sale, and to have achieved such impressive prices for works by the Avant-garde of British printmakers. Of course, Banksy once again stole the show, leading a fantastic and incredibly varied section."

Other highlights of the sale included:

Laurence Stephen Lowry R.A. (British, 1887-1976), Going to the Match. Sold for £39,360.

Banksy (British, born 1974), Jack and Jill. Sold for £38,100.

Banksy (British, born 1974), Gangsta Rat. Sold for £31,800.

David Hockney R.A. (British, born 1937), White Lines Dancing in Printing Ink. Sold for £16,575.

Four works from Damien Hirst's The Virtues, which each sold for £15,300.
