Edward Wilkinson

Edward Wilkinson is Executive Director of Bonhams Asia, and Global Head of the Indian, Himalayan, and Southeast Asian Art Department based in Hong Kong. Recognized as a leading specialist in the field, Wilkinson has organized and presided over prominent and record-breaking sales over the past 20 years in Sydney, London, New York, and more recently in Hong Kong.

Recent sales of note include; a world-record price for the von Schroeder 13th century Tibetan Canda Vajrapani, (HK$49,260,000); the Sonnery, 11th century Kurkihar Buddha (HK$21,900,000); 19th century Rajasthani court artists Bagta ($302,000) and Tara ($172,000); The Eilenberg Buddha, Mon-Dvaravati, Thailand ($674,500); A Tibetan Thirty-Two-Deity Guhyasamaja Mandala, ($929,000); and V.S. Gaitonde, ($1,685,000).

Wilkinson has helped to establish Bonhams Indian, Himalayan & Southeast Asian Art Department as a market leader in the field in New York and Hong Kong due to a strong focus on scholarship and curated single owner sales, including the Maitri Collection, Portraits of the Masters and selections from the Nyingje Lam Collection.

Wilkinson was Executive Head of Lawson's Asian and Tribal Art department. He has served as Vice President of the Oceanic Art Society, Sydney, and committee member of the Oriental Rug Society of NSW, Sydney. From 2009 -2015, he served as Chair of the Southern Asian Arts Council at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
