A group of Eskimo human figures

Late Thule, circa 1500-1850 A.D., St. Lawrence Island, each executed in a minimalist manner with head atop a broad-shouldered limbless torso, the three largest figures of wood, one a female with topknot, the other two likely male; together with six diminutive examples, four of walrus tusk and two of wood, including three female figures with distinctive topknots, another with T-form coiffure, and two presumably male figures.

Provenance
Collected in situ by Dr. Riley D. Moore, thence by descent. Dr. Moore visited St. Lawrence Island in 1912 under the auspices of the Smithsonian Institution in its interests and those of the Panama-California Exhibition, San Diego, 1915. Dr. Moore was the author of Social Life of the Eskimo of St. Lawrence Island, American Anthropologist, Vol. 25, No. 3 (Jul.-Sep., 1923), pp. 339-375; a PDF copy of the article will be included with the lot.
