Old Bering Sea II or III, c. 100-500 A.D., carved in a naturalistic manner, the figure standing with slightly bent knees, the thin arms resting across the abdomen.

See Wardwell, Allen, Ancient Eskimo Ivories of the Bering Strait, 1986, Hudson Hills Press, New York, p. 65, figs. 58 & 59, and p. 66, fig. 61, showing similarly executed examples. As with the present lot, the three examples discussed in Wardwell are sculpted with relatively lifelike features and lack the finely incised motifs associated with earlier Okvik examples.
